1994 Wimbledon champion Conchita Martinez believes Rafael Nadal can make a successful return to tennis in 2024. Nadal, who hasn't played since the Australian Open, surgically repaired his psoas muscle on Friday. The estimated recovery is five months, which means Nadal's 2023 season is over.
In 2024, Nadal plans to be healthy and play the final season of his career. "Come on @RafaelNadal you can handle this and more, I'm sure you'll come back stronger and keep giving us joy," Martinez tweeted.
Vamos @RafaelNadal tú puedes con esto y más, seguro que vuelves más fuerte y nos sigues dando alegrías 💪🏻💪🏻 https://t.co/SVtKIYuYr2
— Conchita Martínez 💙 (@conchitamartinz) June 3, 2023Martinez thinks Nadal can make a strong returnIn January, Nadal was told he would be out for six to eight weeks. But then, Nadal ended up missing the entire clay season and his beloved French Open. In the end, Nadal had to surgically address his psoas muscle issue. On Friday, Spanish media reported that Nadal had surgery. The following day, Nadal himself confirmed the report."Hello everyone. As you know last night I had surgery. Everything went well and the arthroscopy was on the left psoas tendon that has kept me out of competition since January. An old injury to the labrum of my left hip was also regularized, which will surely help the better evolution of the tendon.I want to thank doctors Marc Philippon, Jaume Vilaró and Angel Ruiz-Cotorro for their work. I will start progressive functional rehabilitation immediately and the normal recovery process they tell me is 5 months, if all goes well.Once again thank you for all the support you have shown me and that you show me every day. Today also on my birthday. Not in the desired or dreamed place, although THANK YOU anyway," Nadal announced on Saturday. Nadal's focus will now probably switch to being healthy and ready for the start of the 2024 season in Australia. But for Nadal, the most important thing in 2024 will be being healthy for the French Open.
